Possible bug in v 0.60.67.5
Luis Ramalho - Mon 14/02/2011 23:43:14 CET +0100
I usually use Kitty (renamed to Putty for easy use), and also use plink with MyEnTunnel frontend.
First: When I use kitty for SSH to my university server, I get this sequence... login as: myLogin Access denied myLogin@univ.server.domain.pt's password: somePassword 1- After this 2 things may happen, 1) I sucessful login in the server, 2) It keeps going on asking for the password until it exits with some message "to many failed authentications". 2- It is possible, that a second time calling to Kitty does not show any Login prompt and few seconds later kitty abort's with some connection error. Needless to say PuTTY 0.60 does not show any "Access denied" soon after login entry, and just before the password. I also use plink, and after this, it may also starting to get access denied after sending password in plink. I cannot find out any correlation, between kitty, putty... and a possible raise of a flag in some security measure in the server side. I guess something is causing some kind of complex behavior amongst the two applications and a security measure in the server side that I cannot identify. It is difficult to let technical support of my university understand about this odd and complex behavior. They simply changed my password and while I was at my university all goes well, but at home, the behavior start to become wild again. Finally... to be completely fair, kitty behaves very well, when I access a second server belonging to my laboratory in the same university. So I guess it is not a virus. Thanks and Be well. - Fri 18/02/2011 10:11:25 CET +0100
Try to disable GSSAPI. KiTTY is based on a recent PuTTY source code (not the official 0.60), that include GSSAPI.
And during the authentication, GSSAPI is tried before private key and password authentication (look into the KiTTY log). Answer |
