quake-style dropdown kitty

When I use the roll up feature while in fullscreen mode, it is very similar in behaviour to quake style consoles such as yakuake or guake on linux. however when i click other windows, kitty looses focus and ctrl+f12 won't bring it back. I'm not a programming guy, but it seems to me that this functionality could be easily implemented in kitty. Is it possible? I am sure many people would love it, including me :)
