3 reasons why I can\'t use KiTTY for now :( (help needed!)
David - Mon 27/08/2012 18:02:57 CEST +0200
Hi!
I'm using PuTTY and Pageant for several years. I discovered KiTTY on portableapps.com, and I decided to try it! I downloaded the official portable version (kitty_portable.exe). I didn't try very far, but here are 3 things that bother me in KiTTY: 1) Unresizeable configuration windows + interface truncated My computer is working with a resolution of 1920x1080 (17.3"). When I set "height" to 25 in kitty.ini, I get that: http://i50.tinypic.com/66lsoh.png When I set it to 35, I still can't get the bottom controls: http://i45.tinypic.com/2ury3hu.png With PuTTY, everything works fine: http://i48.tinypic.com/20z7k0g.png 2) How do I get an SSH agent working with KiTTY? When I have work to do with SSH, I first launch Pageant with few private keys in parameter, so they are automaticaly added. Then I type my passphrases and Pageant gets to the notification area. When I want to open a session, I right click on Pageant and select one of the saved session I have configured in PuTTY. With KiTTY, I can't find out how to have a similar workflow. If I put pageant.exe in the same folder as kitty.exe, which I renamed to putty.exe, Pageant will use KiTTY instead of PuTTY when starting a session. But Pageant will still use PuTTY saved session, which mean I should have to maintain the same saved sessions in PuTTY AND in KiTTY to have what I want. I could also use some parameter to make Pageant launch KiTTY launcher, and then use KiTTY launcher to start my sessions, but it doesn't look like a good solution as it would take 2 slots in the notification area and I would have to close 2 programs when I stop using SSH for the day. 3) "Default Settings" appears in KiTTY launcher when modified I have some settings that are the same for every session I will create. For example: I always use UTF-8 as remote charset. With PuTTY, I loaded the session Default Settings, made my changes, and saved it (so every session I create will have UTF-8 as remote charset by default). If I do the same with KiTTY, the new default settings are saved, but also appears in the launcher menu, which is useless (Default Settings doesn't have any host specified so it opens KiTTY configuration window). Is there any way to avoid Default Settings to appear in KiTTY launcher menu? I really hope someone will be able to help me with this. I would love to try KiTTY in more real situation, but I need to solve these issues first. Thanks for reading me! Cyd - Mon 27/08/2012 23:51:43 CEST +0200
1) use winheight=800 in [ConfigBox] section (search for dpi in the forum)
2) download kageant from web site 3) it's a bug i've never seen (i dont use launcher). Will be fixed in next release David - Tue 28/08/2012 00:52:38 CEST +0200
1) Works perfectly with height=15 and windowheight=615
2) It works but only if KiTTY is set to use registry. Is it possible to get kageant to use "dir" savemode? 3) If kageant works, I don't need the launcher :) Thanks a lot for your fast answers! Now I can try KiTTY more deeply \o/ Eric - Wed 29/08/2012 00:31:10 CEST +0200
Hi Cyd,
I was excited to give KiTTY a try -- primarily for the ability to store configuration outside the registry. But I need to use pageant, so I guess "savemode=dir" isn't an option. What is the difference between pageant and kageant? I don't see kageant on the download page. I'd also be interested (as David) if there's a way to have kageant work with "savemode=dir". Thanks, Eric David - Wed 29/08/2012 00:51:19 CEST +0200
@Eric: I found kageant here: https://www.wuala.com/9bis.com/public/build/0.62.1.3/
I guess kageant is a fork of pageant modified to get KiTTY saved sessions instead of PuTTY's... but maybe there is more... Answer |
