characters per line in log file != 80 ?

Is there a way to define the character per line for the logfile?
It looks like the lg file always wraps line at 80 characters no matte how wide the screen is.
I need a setting where the lines never wrap in the logfile unless I hit enter or some program makes a linefeed.
I don't want a line wrap that is triggered by a line width (number of characters).

Please don't tell me it is not possible... ;)
