gethostbyname error running Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise

Heinz Oswald - Tue 28/01/2014 17:05:26 CET +0100

We tried kitty_portable.exe, V_0.63.0.5p and V_0.63.0.6 and kitty_nocompress.exe V_0.63.0.6 Same issue.
Invoking it from a Windoes7 64-bit Enterprise Client from local drive C. or D: works well.
Copied the EXE and all corresponding settings to a Windows Server Network drive to access same settings from my PC and the Notebook.

When I try to OPEN any of my saved SSH sessions or any new one I see an error box, stating:

"Unable to open connection to myhyperlinux.dot.com gethostbyname: unknown error" .
"Unable to open connection to 10.103.112.119 gethostbyname: unknown error" .

It makes no difference if we specify the
destination host with the IPADDR or the FQDN.

At all: works from a local drive, not from a network share.
.
Any ideas? A Windoze bug ?

.
Just my 50 cents.

This seems to have come back in v0.67.4.4, though it is rather odd as to how I can reproduce this.

Windows 10 x64 1607

I have the kitty_portable.exe in my OneDrive folder, and if I double click the file, or run from a standard cmd.exe, it runs without issue. I use ConEmu for most of my heavy lifting and found that I can launch kitty_portable from within ConEmu using PowerShell or cmd, both with just straight up standard shells and with customized shells which have startup scripts.

What isn't working is using ConEmu itself to launch Kitty as a predefined task using the following.

kitty_portable "-new_console:d:%conemudir%\..\_utils\kitty" -new_console:C:"kitty_portable.exe"

When kitty is launch in this method I the the "gethostbyname: unknown error" no matter what I do for the hostname, ip or dns.

Odd that this cropped up when I upgraded kitty from my previous version. What version was working? Good question, I don't have that exe anymore but I think it was 0.67.4.2, once I get that version downloaded again I'll see if the issue goes away.

This looks to have been resolved in 0.68.0.1 and it is also working in 0.68.0.2.
Thanks!

Hi. This is happening to me in 0.68.0.2

I get connection failures either with the mentioned `gethostbyname error`, or `Host does not exist`.

Hi. This exact thing is happening to me in the last version (0.69.0.1). I'm being kept from upgrading from 0.67.4.4 because of this error. I have ipv6 on my computer, don't know if it could be related.

I'm getting the same issue on the latest version (0.69.0.1). Downgrading to 0.67.4.4 resolved it.

I'm currently experiencing this same issue with version 0.70.0.3. It looks like the gethostbyname function has been depreciated.
