KiTTy crash at startup if Sessions/Default%20Settings has error

deejayy - Mon 01/12/2014 10:47:49 CET +0100

If you screw up the Default%20Settings file (or some kind of data corruption is occuring), kitty_portable.exe crashes at startup, you can't start or repair.

Windows event log:

Faulting application name: kitty_portable.exe, version: 0.63.0.0, time stamp:
Faulting module name: kitty_portable.exe, version: 0.63.0.0, time stamp:
Exception code: 0xc0000005

I think its need fixin'

Cyd - Mon 01/12/2014 12:03:50 CET +0100

First, try with very last release: 0.63.2.1
A big issue around memory leak into regex functions has been fixed.

Peter Hoogendijk - Wed 24/08/2016 07:57:50 CEST +0200

This happened to me this morning with version 0.67.0.0.
Deleting the Default%20Settings file solved the issue.
Shouldn't KiTTY protect itself against bad settings?

Cyd - Wed 24/08/2016 11:51:32 CEST +0200

Send me your corrupted file.

Vertikar - Thu 29/09/2016 14:11:11 CEST +0200

I've got the same issue, running 0.67.1.4, but my Default Settings file was completely blank.
Deleted it and was able to start it ok.

Can you test the beta build: http://www.9bis.net/kitty/data/beta/kitty.exe ?

Vertikar - Fri 30/09/2016 04:00:05 CEST +0200

That fixed it, it re-creates the default settings file successfully for me.
Thanks!

Hello,

I have just received this issue using the 0.67.0.0 version of KiTTY. Our users launch KiTTY from a shared drive which has been working well for over a year now but today I received a call to say they were receiving a memory exception error:

"The instruction at 0x0048b497 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program."

On inspection we noticed that the Default%20Settings file had been partially written to:

We have managed to restore the Default%20Settings file from yesterday which has allowed users access again.

Can you please advise if there is anything we need to do to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks,
Jamie

Hello,

Apologies, the KiTTY software version is actually 0.67.0.2

Thanks,
Jamie
