Borrow TuTTY code to show available COM ports automatically

Kenneth - Sun 01/03/2015 00:52:17 CET +0100

Back before PuTTY had the serial backend, we could use TuTTY if that feature was important to use in the mean time and still wanted to be in the PuTTY environment. I was very happy when PuTTY added a serial backend. But one thing I have always missed from the TuTTY implementation is that it would list the available serial COM ports in a drop down list. This is so very useful when using USB-to-COM adapters, which I use a lot in my line of work. Very often on the same laptop or PC Windows is changing which COM port number is used. This means I can't just learn it once. I have to keep going to Hardware setup to see what COM port was chosen this round of plugging in my adapter.

My request is that KiTTY will detect the available COM ports and make them available in a drop down list. Also, to do TuTTY one better, if there were only one COM port available (as is usually the case with laptops that only have the USB-to-COM adapter option) then to automatically select that COM port.

Hi Cyd, just wanted to know if you have this feature request on your todo list?
I think it should be relatively easy to implement and a lot of people would love this feature :)
