KiTTY and GPU

KiTTY seems to use the GPU, at least more than PuTTY. When running a session window, the GPU load spikes slighty every few seconds, enough to kick the GPU out of idle. On my machine, this is enough to keep the GPU clock running at full speed which causes the GPU to start heating up (much slower than when in a game, though). It doesn't do this when the session window is minimized or when the '-putty' option is used. Is there something that can be done about this?
