Kitty crash on SSH login when password enter
phill - Tue 15/09/2015 11:20:53 CEST +0200
I was SSH into a device using Kitty and after I enter username and password, the program crashes. To be precise, straight after I type the password and press enter.

Try to download the uncompressed version of KiTTY.
phill - Thu 17/09/2015 10:36:47 CEST +0200
I couldn't find the uncompression version of Kitty portable.
I tried uncompressing using UPX but got the following message. Error Wrong program signature ! The program is irremediably altered. Download a new version from official web site: OK Would you be able to make one avaialble? Cyd - Thu 17/09/2015 11:24:40 CEST +0200
The uncompressed version of KiTTY is available in the Download page.
phill - Tue 13/10/2015 13:03:29 CEST +0200
uncompressed version crashes as well. It happens randomly so can't seem to find how to reproduce this issue.
Is there anything else I can try? Joey - Tue 13/10/2015 20:50:27 CEST +0200
I'm seeing the exact same thing as well. Some times it crashes 3 times in a row after each time I entered the password. Some other times it never crashes at all. It's all random.
Mario - Mon 19/10/2015 09:13:06 CEST +0200
I got exactly the same issue. Any ideas.
Lukas - Mon 19/10/2015 15:56:48 CEST +0200
Jop same here, crashes after Login.
Tom - Mon 19/10/2015 16:35:18 CEST +0200
I have the same issue and have had it for some time now (over the past few versions)
Cyd - Fri 23/10/2015 12:08:57 CEST +0200
Can someone check this beta build http://www.9bis.net/kitty/data/beta/kitty.exe ?
John - Tue 27/10/2015 16:48:27 CET +0100
I'm getting this as well, but I think it's related to Transparency, which I enabled because it's neat. I disabled transparency and it seems better.
klaus - Thu 12/11/2015 17:00:53 CET +0100
I have the same problem for a while. Never enabled transparency. It happens with the last 0.65.1.1. The beta build has v0.66.0.0. Will try that, when it happens again.
Funny enough, it happens only every couple of weeks. Then you connect and crash several times in a row. You change a bit in the parameters (remove tunnels or the like) and it works again. The changes might not have any influence because you can change it back and the problem does not happen again for days and weeks. Is anybody able to compile it with MSVS? I'd love to produce a debug version and debug right away when it crashes. Jim - Wed 18/11/2015 16:36:03 CET +0100
I am also having this same issue logging into some of my Cisco swtichs with SSH enabled. Same symptoms as everyone else, 90% of the time it will crash as soon as I enter the password. If I keep trying it will eventually work after 5 to 10 times.
I have tried disabling AV protection, used compressed and non compressed version of the program and nothing seemed to solve the problem. Jim - Wed 18/11/2015 16:37:57 CET +0100

I've found some memory leaks.
Can someone test this beta: https://www.9bis.net/kitty/data/beta/kitty.exe and report. Thanks. NetMage - Wed 25/11/2015 19:31:45 CET +0100
When I tried to save a new entry, I got an assertion failed message, though it appeared to save the entry.
NetMage - Thu 03/12/2015 22:17:27 CET +0100
Continues to crash with multiple assertion failed when saving entry, crashing when logging into SSH. I give up on this program.
Daniel - Mon 07/12/2015 08:57:38 CET +0100
This crash is still present up till the latests version 0.66.6.0
About 5% to 15% of the sessions I open everyday stops reponding and crashes - All of them SSH sessions. Cyd - Mon 07/12/2015 09:27:49 CET +0100
Please, can you try to disable hyperlink feature ?
Cyd - Wed 09/12/2015 10:26:57 CET +0100
I really can't reproduce the issue.
Can someone contact me (see menu above) to share informations. s - Wed 09/12/2015 13:14:01 CET +0100
Connection via SSH with RSA key helps me with this issue.
Beat - Thu 14/01/2016 15:09:46 CET +0100
Same here for 0.66.6.1
my work around: copy an session template, save it and connect to the Server. This works always. BUT - randomly the Problem Shows up with another Server/session template. When the error hits - it will hit 100% for that Server unless an new template is created. James - Wed 10/02/2016 17:34:34 CET +0100
I can consistently recreate the problem with one of our older servers using both the most recent portable and classic version of KiTTY (0.66.6.2p). Most recent version of PuTTY (0.66) does not crash. My tests with both PuTTY and KiTTY were with a clean registry, to try to eliminate a setting/preference difference as a factor between KiTTY and PuTTY, so it seems like the issue is likely related to something in the code versus a user-changed setting.
For these tests, I did not use a saved session. I went through the SSH options settings between PuTTY and KiTTY and did not visually notice any default settings that were different. I've captured SSH packets to log, but I don't know if the precipitating issue will be in the logs if the program crashed before the relevant log lines were written. If you would like me to submit that to you, please let me know how. I'm also willing to test any alpha/beta builds to help troubleshoot this issue. Thanks --James Matthew Yauch - Tue 31/05/2016 20:27:31 CEST +0200
Hello folks,
I had this issue as well only on specific devices (the same switches would crash 95%+ of the time). I renamed Default%20Settings to Old. The issue no longer occurred on the new Default%settings that was auto-generated. I performed a Diff on the two files and went through each line of changed config. I found that changing TermWidth \ 80 \ to anything greater than TermWidth \ 95 \ crashed it. Works on 95, 96+ crashed it for me. Remove the spaces, I had to add them in due to this comment submission stripping them out. Every other line in the configuration that had been changed by my customized setup did not crash it. Hope this helps someone. Answer |
