I have a very old version of KiTTY that I've used for years, and the transparency only affected the background, meaning the text remains opaque and readable. Due to the HiDPI of my new laptop, I've had to move to newer PuTTY/KiTTY, and it appears that KiTTY's transparency is now the typical all-or-nothing transparency, meaning the text follows the transparency setting as well.
