Kitty woes on emoji

Whenever an emoji is used in kitty the display becomes garbled (in the weechat irc client for example), or just completely woes whenever used on command line. It's easy te reproduce, just copy/paste a few emoji's on a command line and hit enter. After that enter a few lines of random text and kitty becomes garbled. I tested this with putty without any problems, so it has to be a kitty bug. All this was tested on a Windows 10 machine using kitty connecting to a Debian 9 system.
