Script doesn't wait for prompt

I am not good at scripting, so I use the "record" function to create scripts. This method tends to include the remote terminal output as part of the script, which I dont think is necessary.
Sometimes, when running one of these scripts, KiTTY will wait for a particular prompt before making an input, sometimes it does not, but just enters whatever input is "next in line," and I cannot figure out what characters in my .txt file are causing this, or what characters might be missing.

Is there a guide anywhere that describes the exact syntax and characters needed to produce specific inputs?
